A Texas native, Dr. James Mackey earned his medical degree from the University of Texas, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. Post-graduation, Dr. Mackey completed his internship and residency at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas and received his subspecialty training in medical oncology from Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. Today, Dr. Mackey is board-certified in internal medicine and offers an integrated approach to cancer care with an emphasis on the whole person.

This treatment philosophy includes a commitment by Dr. Mackey to providing individualized, evidence-based treatment plans for his patients. Dr. Mackey works closely with his patients and their families to build mutual trust, so that he can better understand them on a personal level and what treatments will best work for their lifestyle. The treatment plans that Dr. Mackey puts together for this patients include a variety of therapies that speak to all areas of the patient’s healthcare – from the primary treatment that may include radiation and chemotherapy to alternative therapies, nutritional support, emotional support, and more.

Today, Dr. Mackey see his patients at several Choice Cancer Care Centers including Southlake Oncology, Lewisville/Flower Mound Oncology Group, and Las Colinas Cancer Center.

Dr. Mackey enjoys doing home improvement projects in his free time so it works to his benefit that he and his dog live in a 1930s home with many projects to offer. Dr. Mackey also enjoys restoring old cars to their original condition.
